7 - Catfish and the Bottlemen
From Catfish’s sophomore album “7” covers the idea of being in a different time zone from someone you care about and layers it with always taking too long whether it be on trying to save a relationship to just not being on the same page as someone else.
Back On Da Block - Pete Rock
Released in 2000 with the help of C.L Smooth’s rhymes Pete Rock lays down another classic 90’s NYC underground beat pulling his sample from the 1978 cut Warp Factor II.
That’s Life - Frank Sinatra
Originally recorded in 1964 That’s Life quickly rose to the top of the list of Sinatra’s most famous songs when it was released two years later and kept Sinatra atop the charts even with rock and roll’s initial take over. Still culturally relevant Sinatra’s own version can be found used in all types of media from A Bronx Tale to the Tony Hawk’s Underground series to 2019’s Joker movie.
Shadowplay - Joy Division
From one of Britain’s most hopeful post-punk bands of the 70’s we get the heavy effects driven guitar riffs and echoey baritone vocals that would become commonplace twenty years later in the states through the development and popularization of grunge and ska music. Sounding way ahead of their time Joy Division holds one of the best backlogs of music to dive back into.
The Ideal Husband - Father John Misty
In this scathingly personal track Josh Tillman throws his cards on the table revealing his greatest flaws only to challenge the idea of how redeemable is he is if he is ever capable or deserving of settling down and starting a family even if he is willing to accept his flaws.
